Changing the way we do therapy, supervision, and our understanding what “working on our sh*t” really means.
We can’t be objective about our own sh*t, which makes it especially hard for traditional therapy to be effective, That’s why I challenge clients to be 20% uncomfortable, require relational sessions (even in individual therapy), and work outside the insurance based hour (because sometimes, 53 minutes, once a week isn’t the optimal cadence for your care). These approaches ensure that clients leave feeling like they have addressed more than just the symptoms… they have actually have a manageable relationship to the problems that lead us to feeling: Sisyphean, burnt out, hopeless, and *functionally f*cked-up.”
My approach
Providing individuals, relationships, and future therapists with the necessary support to navigate difficult conversations in authentic and accessible ways, while also building up their confidence in their ability manage uncomfortable moments when I am not in the room. After my own experiences in therapy, and 10 years in “on the other side of the couch”, I have learned therapy works best when we’re clear, consistent, and collaborative, having specific and measurable goals to achieve, with real-world, experiential practice before you graduate from our time together. The issues in the world today are hard enough, so why work harder when you can work smarter and ensuring that you have things the least terrible that they have to be (because we can’t fix everything, but we can find ways to manage it all).
Providing a safe space to investigate your life.
Whether we meet in the office or online, I’m here to give you room to explore your unique emotional landscape and help demystify the dysfunctional elements of your life. My experience is that of someone working in mental health for over 10 years, a passionate leader in my professional community, as well as a person who has received unhelpful (if not harmful) experiences as a consumer of mental and physical health services, I do my very best to ensure you never feel gaslit, blindsided, or like you have to wonder what I am thinking (and when I do have human moments with you, like we are safe to repair. The therapeutic relationship is the best indicator of all clinical outcomes… If you don’t feel all the way safe with me (or any other therapist), you can’t get the most out of your investment into our time together.
